Tuna Season is over

You would think it would have been an easy decision to call it a season, the weather was sloppy, no fish.....I had to really think about it yesterday as I was watching my lines do nothing.  At one point I got some seaweed tangled in my lines and I thought it was "fish on!", got all excited and then quickly disappointed!  Anyways, it has been a long, grueling, not your normal kinda tuna season, but we survived it, no major mishaps, and we really did the best we could.  There are plenty of highlights, the big hogs we caught in the first few trips, some of the best sunsets so far, the killer whale that stalked us, the stowaway bird that made it back to port, the photo shoot for the Mix Magazine.  Getting to meet so many great people this summer, some that came from as far away as Montana.  Pulling in that first tuna with my new bait pole, that was a lot of fun!  I am happy to be done, looking forward to spending some quality time with my family before crabbing starts.  Before you know it, it will be June and we will start all over again with as much excitement and enthusiasm as ever before. Top o'the day to you all, Captain Stu, over & out.........................

Day 3
Hmmmm.................5 fish today.  The warm water is quickly heading SW.  I ran all day, started out SW, then decided...I don't want to be off shore this time of year, I've done that before and got my butt kicked, so I changed course and headed East.  Found a few boats inside and no radio talk.....makes me think there might be a few fish.  I realize there will be no big scores but I need to break even before I call it a season so I am going to drift tonight and give it another shot tomorrow.  I will probably being heading in in  a day or two

Day 2
Only 21 fish today, not as good as I was hoping.  There are a few boats in the aea and they did about the same.  My bait is getting pretty beat up, lot's of floaters.  I figure I have lost about half.  I'm thinking because of weather, it is pretty sloppy out here.  So....all the gear is in, hitting my bunk, watch a movie...put today behind me and be on scene for tomorrow.

Day 1
Today was interesting, had zero fish on until 6:00 this evening, I was getting pretty nervous.  There were no other boats in sight and water temp was cold.   So about 11:30 this morning I pulled in all the gear and jammed South, then West.  Finally found warm water, feed, and a few boats.  Managed to put on 48 fish for the evening bite, all nice size.  I can sleep good tonight and looking forward to tomorrow.  I feel like I have gotten located and have high hopes for this trip!

Heading out
Got my fuel and ice yesterday, leaving the dock @ 8am.  Pulling into Ilwaco to get live bait and then heading out for what could be my last trip.  There is still a good sign of fish, weather is a major factor.  I am prepared for a full trip as long as the weather holds.
